The Cass County Star-Gazette is on a short list of no more than five state-wide media sources recognized in 2013 for ongoing efforts to help Crime Stoppers.
Publisher Jody Woltman accepted the award last week from Loren Hamilton, Director for the Illinois State Crime Stoppers Organization and Community Service Assistant Officer with the Jacksonville Police Department.
“I am proud of our efforts to inform the public in an effort to aid in the capture of potential criminals,” state Woltman. “We strive to help not only Cass County, but Scott/Morgan as well. If other neighboring counties send the information, we would help them as well.”
Woltman accepted an engraved plaque honoring the Cass County Star-Gazette a “Media Organization of the Year, 2013,” for “Exemplary Activity Which Exhibits Motivation and Professionalism in the Promotion of The Crime Stoppers Concept in Illinois.”
To be considered for the award, media must be nominated. Hamilton nominated the Star-Gazette.
“The list of winners is five or under this year, and that includes all of the big city media: newspaper, cable, local television stations. The Star-Gazette should be proud of this accomplishment,” stated Hamilton.
