Concerned over 911 dispatch system PDF Print E-mail

To the citizens of Beardstown:
When the city council, mayor, and residents of Beardstown decide on whether to return the E911 call center to the city I hope they would consider a recent incident I witnessed. On Thursday, 18 July, at 12:29 pm I was sitting in the drive-thru lane of the West Central Bank facility in Beardstown Plaza. I realized the female driver at the teller window was unconscious and unresponsive.

I called 911 to get an ambulance to aid her as quickly as possible. My call was answered by a female at McDonough County 911. I explained the situation to the call taker and she transferred me to Cass County 911. I again explained the situation to the male call taker and was told he would dispatch EMS. The ambulance finally arrived at 12:39, a time lapse of 10 minutes. From now on I will call the Beardstown Fire Department in an emergency. I'm sure they could cut the response time in half. My prayer is that the woman is alright. My concern is a 911 system that would send my call to a dispatcher that is not even in the 217 area code.

Sincerely,
David Ballance
