Trenter’s Hardware Store, on the west side of the Virginia square, took a tumble at 8:30 Saturday night, the result of sitting for years with a leaking roof. The vacant building was a double store front that fortunately was not attached to the structures on either side and caused no damage to them. Area residents heard the crash and a crowd soon formed on the square as  dust settled and the rubble tumbled into the street. (above) Local residents watched Sunday morning as century-old bricks and timbers were hauled away. Fiore Belmonte purchased the building about three years ago and had plans to renovate. Virginia business owners have pushed for renovation to the downtown area to restore the square and save historic buildings like Trenter’s.
