Ashland incident ends in fatal shooting (originally published 11-27-2008)

The silence of a small town was broken Tuesday night when a man was fatally shot in the village of Ashland.

Local residents reported emergency vehicles, police and sheriff’s units arriving at a house located on the north side of the village, at approximately 6 p.m.

Wednesday morning, Ashland Police Chief Jim Birdsell verified that the Cass County Sheriff’s department received a call at 5:42 p.m., Tuesday.

“I am working on the investigation, now,” stated Police Chief Birdsell, “but, there will be an autopsy today. Otherwise, there is nothing official to report at this time.”
